  • Pixel Aspect Ratio of 1.0 Square
  • Progressive (not Interlaced)

Audio

Please read the following to be prepared for final submission of the audio component of your grad film.

  • Audio exports to be 48 kHz, 24 bit uncompressed WAV files. If you’ve used MP3 files in your production, please replace them in the editing timeline with WAV files. In the case that your sound designer/mixer delivered a higher resolution, we require a file at only the above specs
  • No matter the format (stereo or surround), please submit only a single “Poly” WAV file (all channels included in a single, rendered file; NOT separate files for each channel [L, R, C, LFE, etc]).
  • Audio levels should be mixed to the following guidelines:
    • Use BS.1770-4 Standards or the following . . .
    • -24 LKFS +/- 1LU (Program Loudness of Mix)
    • True Peaks (loudest sound) no higher than -2 dBTP
  • QuickTime reference video files must contain:
    • 48 kHz, 24 bit uncompressed audio
    • Framerate of 24 FPS, not 23.976 or 23.98
    • Stereo, LCR or up to 7.1 channels (according to your final mix)

Student Responsibilities: to deliver mixed, ready to screen audio files which are sync’d to picture.  It is highly recommended that you include audio post-production in your budget and time-management planning. You likely won’t have time to do (and/or learn) the sound design, Foley, ADR, VO, mix, mastering, and final delivery all on your own.

Technician Responsibilities: Technicians will level (adjust playback level) the mixes to fit into the playback system at the Reliance Theatre and will then sync and arrange the audio and video files of all films into final screening files. If students’ sound designers did not deliver a second mix for Vimeo/Youtube, we will level those films to that spec as well. All final submissions, once sync’d, are then made available for students to download for archiving and festival use (box location to be announced when ready).
